Consider some of Chris’s likes – traveling, gardening, treasure hunting, a good laugh – and you begin to get an idea of photography style. He attracts the offbeat bride and groom and those who desire something organic and fresh.
Dislikes? Losing a shoe, missing a great sunset, snakes, bats, creatures of the deep, his motorcycle getting a flat, not being able to share his gift for photography with you.
His lifetime of travels built from his birth in Germany to his childhood in Spain and his youth in the United States gives Chris a worldview from which to draw inspiration when capturing memorable moments. His passion for surfing on the Hawaiian waters naturally drew him to the surf industry as a photographer in his early years and helped to shape his style and approach to his photography today.
Chris studied photography at Crealdé School of Art in Winter Park, Florida and soon built an impressive portfolio through work with Line Up Magazine, National Surf Magazine, and ESM Eastern Surf Magazine. He has claimed coveted cover images and spreads for these surf culture publications, including tear sheets for Roxy, KGB Swimwear, L-space, Blue Glue, Matix, Tarra Grinna, Spy, Yellowman, and More than Mammal. His images have also appeared on the television shows,“One Tree Hill” and “Surface.”
Skilled with the use of natural light and surroundings, Chris’s work shines in images captured amid amazing golden sunsets, ocean waters, waterfalls, crashing waves, mountain streams, big rocks overlooking large bodies of water, fields of wheat, fields of sunflowers, old oak trees. Add those to his list of likes, and places you may go.
One more like: Having the opportunity to create unforgettable, soulful images tailored just for you.
“I am humbled and know my style and gift come from within, a true gift that I long to share with those who cross my path. Looking for ways and moments to encounter my creator.” – Chris Van Atta
